Roses of Bulgaria Concert

Dear friends of the Bulgarian traditional music and dance,

The Zornitza Dance Ensemble is pleased to announce its annual concert, “Roses of Bulgaria”. The concert will be held at the Blue Shore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts at Capilano University in North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Concert starts at 4:30pm (doors will open at 4:00pm)

Bulgarian market and gathering starts at 3:00pm

Parking Instructions: $4.75 flat rate for 24 hours

This event will feature various dance groups from Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle, promising an exciting and memorable celebration of Bulgarian traditional music and dance. The concert will be followed by a gala dinner and a dance party until midnight (tickets to come soon).

Concert performances will include:

Zornitza – a youth dance group from Vancouver consisting of enthusiastic performers captivating the audience with an arrangement of traditional Bulgarian dances that embrace the everlasting rhythms of different regions of the country. Their synchronized and graceful performances put everyone around them in awe with their detailed perfection.

Hubavitsi – passionate and eager, full of energy and delight, this Bulgarian youth folk dance group is part of the “ St. Cyril and Methodius Bulgarian Heritage Language School” in Vancouver.

Kitka- a folk dance group with a vibrant rhythm, charming smiles and colorful costumes which has been continually sharing Bulgarian traditions and culture. They have been offering amazing performances with their spectacular and dynamic pieces for more than 20 years.

Folk Misteria- a traditional dance folk group of charming presenters with innovative ideas on stage, encouraging spectators and revealing the beauty of Bulgarian folklore.

Balkanaria- a beautifully designed group of performers that was recently established captures the audience with their endless desire to innovate and expand new horizons. They provide perfect coordination of effortless vocal skills and a crystal clear voice (Nadya Shishenska ) in conjunction with the traditional Bulgarian music of Dr. Kosta Bozhinov who is a virtuoso on the accordion and Gencho Kalaykov who discovered his talent with drums in Canada. They have performed at different events and they provide a memorable, quality performance.

Kuker- a unique presentation that is intended to carry forward the legacy of his ancestors including a unique ritualistic performance intended to drive away evil spirits and bring blessings of health, prosperity and happiness.

Biala Rosa – a Bulgarian Dance folk group from Victoria, BC will excite us with their amazing performances and surprise us with their unique dance show.

Hopa Trop – a Folk Dance Ensemble of Bulgarian folks from Seattle infused with the traditions and culture of Bulgaria, presenting dances that seize the attention of people observing their energetic creations.

Seattle Cheta – a folk dance performance group of the Bulgarian Cultural and Heritage Center of Seattle present their unique choreography reflecting the themes and the captivating traditions of Bulgarian folklore.

Our special, enthusiastic, little presenters from the Bulgarian school in Vancouver “St. Cyril and Methodius” and the Bulgarian school in Seattle – a holiday strongly embedded in our hearts, culture and tradition will recognize and honor the young and full of potential talents who will step on stage to perform dances, sing beautiful songs and recite well known poems from significant Bulgarian authors. They will entertain us on this special day, May 24th, celebrating knowledge, education and our Bulgarian identity!
